artist's statement on the photo of the month This photograph was captured this October on the Dallas Divide at sunset. Like many photographers I often tend to use wide angle lenses when photographing landscapes in the mountains. There were many photographers from all over the country on Dallas Divide on this evening, mostly at the scenic overlook turnoff. I wanted to place the fall Aspens as closely as possible to the mountains and the fantastic skies we experience often on the Colorado Western Slope. To do this I selected this prominent stand of aspen only a half mile or so down from the overlook and utilized a large telephoto to compress the image bringing the mountain, sky and aspen as close as possible. This image really represents fall on the Western Slope to me.
